Research area & expertise:

Migration issues have guided a great part of my academic work. It includes analyses of changes in family organization and survival strategies within migrants from the Brazilian urbanized South to the frontier areas of the Amazon Region. I have also researched the cross-cultural transition and adaptation of Brazilian immigrants in Canada, exploring how migrants perceive and construct transnational social spaces. In Denmark I have examined several aspects of the local migrant groups such as the fertility behaviour, mental health and the effects of migration on the propensities of mixed marriages.

Current reasearch interests & projects:

Currently, my main interest is the international migration of female footballers including its historical development and qualitative analyses of motives, adaptation and outcomes of the players´ migration experience. At the present moment, I´m working on a paper titled: “The WWCup-2011 and the Globalization of Women´s Football” and finalizing a biographical study on the football career of a Brazilian player in Europe with a focus on how the mediation of “agents”, relationships with coaches and perception of the local culture, define the course of player´s career.
