NOTA BIOGRÁFICA
Stephen Wagg é Professor de Desporto e Sociedade na Leeds Metropolitan University no Reino Unido. Ele ensinou na Universidade de Leicester entre 1989 e 1996, antes de aceitar um posto na Universidade de Roehampton em Londres. Em 2005 foi doutorado pela sua tese sobre Politica, Cultura Popular e Mudança Social na Universidade de Surrey. Modou para Leeds no ano seguinte, onde se tornou Professor em 2008.
Ele é sociólogo experiente e deu aulas de sociologia por mais que trinta anos, com um interesse particular em política e história relacionada ao desporto. Ele publicou trabalhos sobre desporto e sociedade desde 1983 e é autor do livro The Football World: A Contemporary Social History (Harvester Press, 1984). Ele co-editou British Football and Social Change (Leicester University Press, 1991), East Plays West: Sport and the Cold War (Routledge, 2007) and Amateurism and British Sport (Routledge, 2008) e editou Giving the Game Away: Football, Politics and Culture Across Five Continents (Leicester University Press, 1995), British Football and Social Exclusion (Routledge, 2004), Cricket and National Identity in the Postcolonial Age (Routledge, 2005) e Key Concepts in Sports Studies (Sage, forthcoming in 2009).
Por mais, Stephen editou series para a editora Leicester and Manchester University Presses e é de momento co-editor para Palgrave Macmillan das series Global Culture and Sport.
Ele completou recentemente os dois projectos de livros Lucky Leeds? Politics and Culture in a Post-modern Northern City (em qual ele discuta a indentidade civica e Don Revie’s Leeds United) e These Sporting Lives: Sport, Heroism and the North of England. O primeiro livro foi o-editado com Peter Braham and será publicado em 2009 pela editora Ashgate Press; o ultimo foi co-editado com Professor Dave Russell e será publicado em 2010 pela editora Northumbria University Press.
Também escreve sobre comédia (editor de Because I Tell a Joke or Two: Comedy, Politics and Social Difference Routledge, 1998) e infância (co-editor of Thatcher’s Children? Politics, Childhood and Society in the 1980s Falmer Press, 1996).
Prof. Dr. Wagg dá aulas sobre Britain and the Wider World, 1930-1990, Contemporary Sport History and The Politics of International Sport.
